I feel like I need to paint bigger. I want to make larger, broader strokes and fewer of them.

I like the composition. I like the three trees towering over the tops of all the others. I love the blue to teal to pink gradation in the sky. I feel the tree shapes could use work but I don’t want to overwork the pastel so I’ve decided to stop here.

The gestural starts of these paintings are so far my favorite part of all of them. Somehow I need a process that allows me to keep these lines as I go along. (Follow me on instagram to see work in progress photos.) The initial drawings are so lively and loose. Maybe tomorrow’s painting will be closer to the solution I want for these.

At the least, I will have studies to work from when and if I decide to go bigger with these. 6×9″ is not big enough for me, but it satisfies the need to paint every day because it’s small enough that I can do it, even with regular worky work heating up (it’s show season). I am grateful that I am feeling inspired by what I’m doing rather than depressed by what I’m not doing.

This is number 9 in my 30 Landscapes in 30 Days series.

This painting is available at auction on ebay through November 20, 2015. After that, if you’re interested in purchasing it, contact me about payment and to arrange shipping.
