Painting No. 18, 30 Landscapes in 30 Days

Last Quarter Mile

Today’s painting is of a bend in the path through the Julington Durbin Preserve. From here it’s about a 1/4 mile back to the parking lot, hence the name of this piece.

By this time in the walk, my feet are wet with dew, my dogs are ready for breakfast and I am impatient to begin my day. Still, I stop here and take one more photo. I probably have dozens of pictures of just this spot.

I like the sun skipping through the tops of the trees and leaving bright patches on the path. I like the shadows thrown forward by the tall trunks.
