There’s no substitute for an accurate drawing. I started over with Ms. Leila for the fourth time after trying to muscle through the first, second and third attempts. I’ve included some work in progress pictures. I used a posterized version of the reference photo to lay in the initial colors and then just tried to go with the same values, blending with color as I went along. I may tweak it a bit more after this, but it’s mostly done.

Leila, WIP
Here’s number 28 in the Portraits series, if you’re keeping track. I worked on this last night for twenty minutes with lovely Leila sitting at our dinner table, then took a couple of photos and will hopefully finish it today. Maybe, if it turns out like I hope, I can convince Leila’s husband, Ab, to come and sit for me on another Friday evening soon.

Commissions welcome! Here are some examples of people portraits. Here are some pet portraits I’ve done.
I thought I’d share some of my recently commissioned work.
These were a delight to do and I hope to get more of this type of work. With that in mind, I put a page together outlining my policies regarding commissions. It outlines costs, time needed and what to send.
